New review of DEATHRONER "Death To All"
Burning Churches, ZINE N°9 (France)
All the junkies of the underground in need of Brutality, should obtain this tape as soon as possible! DEATHRONER from Quebec are into aggressive Black / Thrash with a strong smell of Death Metal (remind me DEICIDE mainly). Here, there's no waste of time and moods as "i wanna be more evil Than The Most Evil Things You ever heard ", it's only right straight aggression Into your face, The Way We Like It! It’s smell integrity, power and hate…a band to support and follow for sure...
If we need to find bad points for this record it’s maybe the drums doesn’t sound as powerful as the guitar (but it’s not really a problem) and the cover artwork that means nothing much interesting for me (a space picture)...
And if they’d like to make a CD version of this album, they can keep a copy for me (should be a good stuff to listen in your car before going to work hehe).

I think those who will buy this tape already know what to expect! And I can assure them they will not be a bad choice! This split presents a selection of 3 very promising groups of the underground!
HELL TORMENT Peru with his Black / thrash very efficient as only South Americans friends know how to play... Then GUERRA TOTAL from Colombia... I recently discovered with their album just as good to satisfy any fans of old school Thrash and bestiality... and finally my compatriots of PERVERSIFIER, who in the lineage of a MANZER, proudly carries the values and the way to play Black / Thrash as it should always be! An essential stuff for every amateur of Old School!
With me for a slight preference for the Frenchies (listen to their demo also "Black Thrash'N Assault" is a killer!).

Seule et unique tape de ces jeunes français, et c’est bien dommage parce qu’on sent qu’il y a du potentiel là-derrière. On a à faire à un Black Metal bien cru, qui ne renie pas ses origines Heavy. On le sent notamment grâce à l’intrusion de certaines mélodies et des riffs bien lourds, même si le mot d’ordre semble tout de même être la bestialité. On a même vrai batteur qui entraîne ses collègues dans un déluge de riffs apocalyptiques, toujours portés par cette voix sauvage et vengeresse, et avec un chant français d’ailleurs, c’est la classe ! Et nos amis savent aussi ralentir le tempo par moment, et ça donne carrément plus d’impact aux passages plus violents. On regrettera un son pas toujours à la hauteur, même si cette remarque est de l’ordre du détail parce que pour ce genre de Black, un son bien crasseux colle parfaitement, mais ça manque quand même un peu de puissance. Et même si Abyme s’en sort pas trop mal, tout n’est pas parfait. Certains passages sont un peu inutiles et entendus des dizaines de fois, mais pour une première cassette, on ne va pas chipoter pour si peu. Pour faire court, c’est une bonne découverte, mais il manque un petit quelque chose pour être vraiment intéressant. Et visiblement, on ne connaitra pas la suite puisque le groupe a splitté, ça fait bien chier…

Nouvelle chronique de DEATHRONER "Death To All"

Achtung petit bâtard, apprête-toi à savourer la méga-raclée du printemps car ce que le père Ian nous a dégotté là est une putain de tuerie. En effet, ce gang québécois pratique un thrash/death/black de folie, une agression riffesque absolument ininterrompue qui va t'éventrer en deux comme un pavé de saumon sous la lame experte et aiguisée d'un maître sushi. Des solos de guitares possédés qui te noient la cheutron sous leurs glougloutements hystériques, du riffs bien burnés où le soucis majeur n'est pas t'empiler les démonstrations mais bien de te faire hurler comme un damné qui prendrait son bain dans les flammes infernales, et puis cette voix... mouaaargh, c'est le genre d'aboiements de bouledogue affamé semblant venir d'une bête innommable qui se réveilleraient après des siècles d'hibernation. Globalement, on va dire que Deathroner ça ressemble à la rencontre entre le Slayer des 2 premiers opus et le Deicide des tous débuts, avec un coté black-metal en plus. C'est d'ailleurs la voix qui fait que Deicide semble être une influence majeure, avec ce genre de vociférations typiques de Glen Benton gorgée de furie anticléricale, sauf qu'ici la personnalité thrash prédomine sur tout. 8 titres avec rien du tout à jeter, chaque chanson étant égale à la précédente en terme d'agression ultime et de jusqu'auboutime métallique. Souvent l'impression de se faire labourer comme si t'étais jeté à la place du ballon au centre d'une mêlée de rugby avec une dizaine de gros gaillards qui te piétinent la gueule en cadence. Seul le son est un peu frustrant en fait, s'agit d'un résultat un poil brouillon mais correct quand même, avec la batterie qu'on n'entend pas assez à mon goût au profit des guitares surpuissantes (la basse, je la cherche toujours sinon). En tout cas, ça me plairait de voir si sur support cd le résultat sonne mieux... ou pas, si c'est uniquement le support cassette qui fait que ça sonne comme ça. A part ça, des compos comme les colossales "Fire Holocaust" ou "Profanity", j'me les passe encore et encore sans jamais me lasser. Même l'instrumental "Führerprinzip" dégouline d'un trop plein de sauvagerie qui force le respect. A ne surtout pas louper !
